Sara DeCosta (Hayes): gold medalist in women’s hockey at the 1998 Nagano, Japan Games and silver medalist as goalie for the United States women’s hockey team in 2002 at Salt Lake City. Sara was an all-state goalie on the boy’s varsity team at Toll Gate High School in 1996. She played intermittently for Providence College, between her tours with the U. S. national team, on which she registered the first-ever shut out of Team Canada in 1997. In 1998-99, she led the nation’s collegiate goalies with a .943 save percentage for the Lady Friars. In 2000 and 2002 Sara was named USA Hockey Women’s Player of the Year, and in 2002 she was named a Sports Ethics Fellow by the Institute for International Sport. Sara and her husband Mark presently operate a fitness center in Walpole, Massachusetts, and she does numerous appearances and promotions for charitable causes.
