Charles Swanson was considered Rhode Island’s ambassador of tennis. He is rated among the best senior doubles players in the world. He won sixteen national tennis titles, and is recognized as the father of the Rhode Island tennis scene, teaching tennis professionals despite never having taken a lesson himself. He is credited with developing hundreds of young players and several of his pupils have become champions, including his daughter. He was chosen to represent the United States in the World Senior Championships in Europe the age of 73, and remained the New England Senior Doubles Champion for more than a decade.
